Snuffleupagus

I have no idea what kind of doggie this is...any ideas?

Update: One of the stickers on the case says this pup is a Coton de Tulear. Fancy!

PERUVIAN HAIRLESS!

One of the best things about the dog show was not just that there were hundreds of adorable dogs with friendly humans, but also the fact that there were so many different kinds of dogs walking around. Dogs I'd only read about, or seen in YouTube videos! Dogs like the PERUVIAN HAIRLESS, which I'd longed to see IRL. (In addition to YOLO, my students taught me IRL this summer. Eep.)

The women with these dogs were really friendly, and explained that it's necessary to oil these dogs down (yes) and to coat them with sunscreen. (I frequently saw them doing both.)

Look at these beauties!

It's like touching a baby.

Check out those skin wrinkles!

Poodle!

Fancy.

I once had a funny conversation with my French mom about how some people in the U.S. associate poodles with France (she hadn't heard this). But apparently French poodles actually originated in Germany. Who knew!

Happy Thursday.

English bulldog

THAT FACE.

Whenever I see a bulldog, I now think of this article and cringe.  (Note that because this was a dog show, the bulldogs were especially exaggerated. Ugh.) But given that I really love bulldogs, I took a zillion photos of them at this thing (despite the awfulness of breeding practices, eep), so stay tuned.

Bruno

Hello, BPofGD!

I'm back after a long hiatus, and have approximately 100 photos (yes, 100!) to share.  Having a dogblog without actually having a dog presents some problems for content (e.g., going to a dog park without a dog seems to sketch some people out), but fortunately, the best thing happened this past week...I went to Puerto Rico for a conference and a dog show was simultaneously taking place at the convention center.

Red carpet for dogs.

FOUR DAYS OF DOGS! And friendly humans who were really amenable to strangers taking photos of their (show)dogs.  It was the.best.

Oh! And another great thing happened during the past six weeks: one James D. sent me his amazing dog zine. A ZINE OF DOGS! Thanks so much, James--totally made my month. I'll try to take some pix of it to post here.  Dog lovers, unite!

Anyway, enjoy the next 100 days of well-groomed pooches.

Bruno was walking around Old San Juan (and was not, ahem, a showdog). So cute!

Look at that face!
(I finally learned how to do captions. Hip hip!)
